WOMEN'S PREMIERSHIP STARS CLAIM BRONZE MEDALS

International stars of the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership warmed up for the new season with a third place finish in the Alanya Gold City Women’s Cup in Turkey this week.

Alfie Wylie’s Northern Ireland full international squad which included eleven representatives from the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership capped a successful week which culminated in the 2-1 victory over Uzbekistan to seal third place in the eight team tournament.

The Tournament started last Wednesday (27 February) with a comfortable 6-0 win over Jordan at the Gold City Hotel in Turkey. Cliftonville Ladies midfielder Marissa Callaghan captained the side on her landmark 50th cap and Linfield defender Ashley Hutton was on the scoresheet in the six goal rout.

In game two, Northern Ireland were defeated 3-1 by France ‘B’ on Friday in cruel fashion after two late goals. But Northern Ireland bounced back with a 4-0 defeat of Kazakhstan on Sunday afternoon with Glentoran’s Demi Vance scoring twice.
