Crusaders Strikers and Newry City Ladies kicked off the Danske Bank Women's Premiership at Allen Park in a thrilling six goal contest.

The North Belfast side started slowly, struggling in the atrocious weather conditions. Newry were gifted the lead after two minutes when keeper Skelton brought down Mackin in the box, conceding a penalty that was converted by Harbinson.

Crusaders found themselves even further behind with Newry’s midfielder Harbinson unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner from distance,  quickly followed by Newry's 3rd that came from a good save by Skelton who pushed the ball on to the post, the rebound hitting her on the back and spinning over the line.

Crusaders were a different team in the second half, encouraged by an early goal from McDowell who poked the ball over the line, latching on to a spill by the Newry keeper after an O'Donnell shot.

The Strikers dominated the possession throughout the second half playing at a high tempo, with some excellent passages of play.  Newry managed to win a free kick playing on the break, Harbinson’s shot beating the Crusaders 'keeper with a little help by the blustery conditions.

Crusaders managed to pull another one back ten minutes from the end, Nelson superbly rising to meet a fantastic McDowell corner.
