The Danske Bank Women's Premiership continues tonight as we preview the matches in gameweek 18 of the 2019 campaign.
League leaders Sion Swifts face another test of their title credentials as they welcome Cliftonville while there is a huge basement clash between Comber Rec. and Derry City. Crusaders sit out this round of action while Glentoran’s massive clash with champions Linfield has been put back to 14 September.
Comber Rec. Ladies v. Derry City (venue: Londonderry Park; kick-off 8pm)
This is a vital clash between the league's bottom two sides - whose only points this season have come in matches against each other. Comber's solitary league point in their first ever campaign at this level came in the May meeting between the sides, while Derry edged out Winky Kerr’s side 2-1 at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium in early July.
Derry have a superior goal difference of 43 goals so it is likely that if Comber are to avoid bottom spot, they will need to win this match and then hope to pick up at least one point from their remaining three games thereafter.
Comber have four matches of their campaign remaining compared to just three for the Candystripes - who will know that a win here would mean they realistically will not be caught at the foot of the table.
Sion Swifts Ladies v. Cliftonville Ladies (venue: Melvin Sports Complex; kick-off 8pm)
Sion Swifts fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Linfield in their title clash last time out, and even though that brought their seven-game winning streak in the league to an end - it ensures they remain at the top of the table. The Strabane-based side are a point ahead of the Blues, who have played one game fewer, while they sit four clear of Glentoran, in third.
Sion have won all three meetings between the sides this season - two in the league and one meeting in the League Cup - by an aggregate scoreline of 10-3, despite not managing to register a win against the Reds in the entirety of last season.
Sion will be aware that even if they win every game until the end of the season it may not be enough to secure the league title, so every point is now precious. Cliftonville are in decent form - they recorded big home victories over Comber Rec and Derry City recently and are sitting comfortably in fourth place and recently secured a 1-1 draw at Glentoran.
