Linfield Ladies got their season off to a flying start at the Hammer Complex with a convincing 5-2 victory over Sion Swifts Ladies on a miserable night of wind and rain.
Kirsty McGuinness continued where she left off last season when she opened the scoring after four minutes, latching onto a Chelsea Myles pass and lifting the ball over the advancing 'keeper.
Sion drew level in the 20th minute through international Kendra McMullan who pulled the ball down in midfield before driving it over the head of Lauren Perry into the Linfield net.
Only two minutes later McGuinness was again on the score sheet calmly sliding home a penalty, having been pulled down in the box by O'Connor.
With the Blues leading at half-time Megan Bell flashed a corner kick across the six yard line, with Lyndsey Corry arriving at the back post to force home Linfield's third of the night.
Linfield captain Sarah Venney then bagged herself a goal driving home a free kick from the edge of the box following a foul on new signing Leontia McVarnock.
Minutes later Chloe McCarron on her competitive debut rounded Swifts 'keeper Niamh Mailey to calmly finish for a debut goal.
Back came Sion in the 69th minute with substitute Lauren Harper picking up a cross from the left, in the box, before turning and driving low into the far corner.
Jess Dornan went close for Linfield in the 80th minute pressuring Mailey into a mistake only to see her effort shave the crossbar.
