ALL SQUARE AS SION AND CLIFTONVILLE DRAW IN STRABANE

Sion Swifts Ladies and Cliftonville Ladies shared the points in a thrilling 2-2 draw in Strabane.

Both teams tried to find their footing during the first half, but what chances were created were from long range as defending proved to be on top.

Cliftonville’s Amber Dempster was stretchered off in the middle of the first half after a strong 50/50 challenge between herself and Claragh Connor.

Sion began brightly in the second half, opening the scoring when a cross from Amy Boyle Carr found Aimee Mackin who sent it past Cliftonville keeper Caoimhe Callaghan.

A second was added by the home side after Chloe McGlade dropped a shoulder and sent the ball soaring into the top corner on 73 minutes.

Cliftonville responded almost instantly after a goal kick from Niamh Mailey found the boot of Billie Simpson who volleyed it over the Sion keeper from ten yards inside her own half.

The Reds found momentum and equalised on 80 minutes after Sion failed to clear their lines and Marissa Callaghan found herself one on one with Mailey to calmly finished.

The game ended with the points shared between the two teams after equal contest and fantastic second half.
