REDS EASE TO HOME WIN
Second half goals from Kirsty McGuinness and Louise McDaniel secured a 2-0 victory for Cliftonville in their penultimate game of the season at Solitude.
After a low key first half, in which the Reds struggle to break down a stubborn Lisburn defence, McGuinness broke the deadlock with a free-kick on 65 minutes before McDaniel doubled their advantage two minutes later with a low finish.
The Reds went close on 7 minutes as Fi Morgan headed over the crossbar from McGuinness’s pinpoint corner delivery.
Caitlin McGuinness then squandered a good chance when her weak poked effort was straight at Jessica Poots.
The two McGuinness sisters had similar efforts turned away by Poots in quick succession as the Reds attempted to find the first goal of the game.
They came out with more attacking intent in the second half with Kirsty McGuinness’s swirling strike flashing just wide of the far post.
It would be the Northern Ireland winger who would eventually open the scoring as she curled home a free-kick into the far corner from just outside the area.
Two minutes later McDaniel added a second, racing into the box and volleying home a low shot into the bottom corner.
Lisburn goalkeeper Poots continued to pull off a number of impressive saves, twice more denying Kirsty McGuinness and then thwarting Maxwell as the Reds saw out the win.
