MOORE AT THE DOUBLE FOR LINFIELD
Mia Moore bagged both goals as Linfield Women defeated Ballymena United Women at The Showgrounds.
The Blues began brightly, and came close to opening the scoring inside the first ten minutes but Moore was unfortunate to see her strike hit an upright before falling to safety.
Linfield dominated much of the possession but United were resolute in defence, with Chelsea Millar in particular turning in a towering performance at the back.
The deadlock was eventually broken on 37 minutes when a long ball from Aimee-Lee Peachey found Moore who beat the offside trap and send her low shot past the keeper and into the net.
Linfield continued to enjoy more of the possession after the break but United continued to frustrate the visitors, and had a few break away opportunities themselves.
The hosts came closest to scoring in the early part of the second half through a long free kick from Ellen McClure but it was safely collected by Linfield keeper Lauren Currie.
On 62 minutes, Linfield doubled their lead and secured all three points when Peachey drove forward from the back, floated another superb ball across the pitch for Moore to slot home.
Sophie Gargan had a late chance to make it three but she couldn’t direct her header on target
