LISBURN HOLD OFF CANDYSTRIPES FIGHT BACK
Lisburn Ladies withstood a second half fight back to defeat Derry City Women at the Brandywell.
The visitors moved in front on 11 minutes. Abbie Burnett broke free on the left and found Jemma White, alone in the Derry box, who showed good composure to direct the ball under Naomh Barr.
The lead was doubled after half-an-hour from the penalty spot as Michelle McDaid easily converted at the second time of asking following Barr’s excellent initial save.
The contest looked over on 51 minutes as Morgan Shannon again exposed Derry’s defensive fragilities and coolly slotted home.
For the next 20 minutes Derry would continue to press with little to show for their efforts but that changed on 77 minutes as Abby Alexander chased down a lost cause to find herself in enough space to cross for Bria McGilloway to turn the ball home.
Then, a minute later, Clarah Quigg seized on poor Lisburn passing to knock the ball forward to Ellie Reddin who had the time to turn and score from distance.
Lisburn recovered with five minutes remaining through Stacey Murdough to restore their two-goal cushion before, in stoppage time, White made sure of the win with a stunning strike.
