GLENS DOMINATE AT THE SHOWGROUNDS
Glentoran Women put in a dominant performance on their visit to the Ballymena Showgrounds to make it six wins from six and return to the top of the table.
The Glens were straight out of the blocks with Nadene Caldwell and Kerry Beattie being thwarted by strong saves by home keeper Lucy Winton.
The home side's resistance was finally undone on 18 minutes after a Joely Andrews corner was turned home by Beattie.
Just one minute later, the visitors doubled their advantage when Caragh Hamilton broke down the right and delivered and inch perfect pass for Emily Wilson to score from inside the box.
The third Glens goal also came from a corner, delivered by Demi Vance on 39 minutes. United failed to clear and the ball fell to Hamilton who found the net.
Then, just before the break, Glentoran scored their fourth when a strike from the edge of the box by Beattie deflected off Tash Bamford and past Winton.
Glentoran very much picked up where they left off in the second half, dominating the ball and putting Ballymena under relentless pressure.
They extended their advantage on the hour. Vance’s corner found Sarah Tweddie whose excellent volley from just inside the box gave the keeper no chance.
The scoring continued six minutes later after United failed to clear their lines. Chloe McCarron picked up the ball, drove into the box and placed an excellent strike in the top corner.
Another brilliant ball by Vance split the defence on 78 minutes and found Andrews who slotted home to get her deserved goal.
Beattie wrapped up her hat-trick on 88 minutes with an excellent finish after Andrews drove down the left and played an excellent ball into the box.
Rachel McIntyre completed the scoring right at the end after running onto another through ball to finish well.
