SKY BLUES PICK UP FIRST WIN
Ballymena United Women picked up their first win of the season after a five-goal thriller away to Derry City Women.
But it was the Candystripes that held the initial advantage when, on 26 minutes, Cate Toland converted from the spot after Abby Alexander had been brought down in the area.
United levelled before the break, however, when Kylie Doherty made the most of a moment of hesitation in the home defence to find the net with an opportunistic strike from the edge of the box.
Derry might have regained the lead just short of the interval only for the crossbar to deny Alexander her debut home goal for the Candystripes.
City did have the ball in the net again on 51 minutes but Clarah Quigg's effort was ruled out offside.
The visitors moved in front moments after that when another bout of poor defending allowed Zoe McDowell to turn home a corner.
Back came City just before the hour when Alexander finally found the net with a calm and composed finish past Lucy Winton.
On 72 minutes a moment of magic allowed Ballymena to claim all three points. Ellen McClure created the angle just outside the box to find the far corner of Naomh Barr’s goal.
