CAITLIN AT THE DOUBLE
Caitlin McGuinness netted twice as Cliftonville Ladies defeated Linfield Ladies 3-0 to retain their position at the top of the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership.
The Reds maintain their one-point advantage over champions Glentoran Women while the North Belfast side also have a game in hand.
McGuinness netted in either half against her former club with Marissa Callaghan also on the scoresheet to secure a potentially priceless victory for John McGrady’s side.
Any early pressure from the visitors was nullified when on 6 minutes a delightful ball from the returning Callaghan found Caitlin McGuinness who gave Lauren Currie no chance with her strike.
Cliftonville doubled their lead on 18 minutes when Linfield failed to clear a Toni-Leigh Finnegan free kick, with Callaghan quickest to react and strike home from a tight angle at the far post.
It took until the 86th minute to add a third for the Reds; a moment of great vision by Finnegan whose rasping attempt almost deceived Blues keeper Currie, who palmed it into the path of Caitlin McGuinness who blasted it into the net to keep the Solitude side top of the league.
