REDS HIT DERRY FOR SIX
Two goals apiece from Marissa Callaghan and Caitlin McGuinness helped propel title hopefuls Cliftonville Ladies to a six-goal home win over Derry City Women.
Three goals in the space of seven early first half minutes put the Reds in control as Northern Ireland international trio Danielle Maxwell, Toni Leigh Finnegan and Callaghan all found the net.
McGuinness added a fourth goals 12 minutes after the break and the Reds again found the net soon after as Callaghan added a fifth on the hour mark with McGuinness grabbing her second and the home side’s sixth late on to complete the win.
Maxwell opened the scoring on eight minutes when she rifled home her first goal for the club from the edge of the area.
Finnegan rose highest to head home from Grace McKimm’s corner to double their advantage on 13 minutes.
Callaghan added a quick fire third with a neat finish from a tight angle two minutes later, with the Reds missing a hatful of chances to add to their lead before the break.
McGuinness would get on the scoresheet on 57 minutes, slotting past Clare Friel from close range with Callaghan getting her second and the Reds’ fifth three minutes later.
She guided the ball into the far corner from Maxwell’s teasing cross from the right.
McGuinness wrapped up the victory with nine minutes remaining, turning home substitute Tara Reilly’s low cut back to hand the Reds their second successive league win.
