EARLY GOALS END SEASON ON HIGH FOR LINFIELD LADIES
Linfield Ladies finished the Women's Premiership campaign with a 2-1 victory over Crusaders Strikers at Midgely Park.
The Blues raced into an early two-goal lead thanks to a Rebecca Bassett strike and Victoria Carleton penalty, before Danielle McDowell pulled a goal back for the Crues eight minutes after half-time.
Keri Halliday slipped Bassett through on goal and the striker finished confidently to put the Blues 1-0 ahead on six minutes.
Five minutes later, a great run from Carleton was halted when she was fouled in the box, she picked herself up and dispatched the resulting penalty high into the roof of the net.
After the break, McDowell was played in and she provided a strong left foot finish that found the back of the net, despite the best efforts of Blues goalkeeper Lauren Currie.
Crusaders sensed a comeback was on the cards and Currie made a good save from a Julie Nelson free kick.
At the other end, on 80 minutes, Katie Dickson’s effort cannoned off the bar after a finger-tip save from Maddy Harvey-Clifford in the Crusaders goal who made a second save from Carleton from the resultant corner.
