RUNNERS-UP CLIFTONVILLE FINISH SEASON IN STYLE
Cliftonville saw off their league campaign in style as they hit Sion Swifts for six in an entertaining 6-2 win at Solitude.
Kirsty McGuinness and Fionnula Morgan both bagged braces for John McGrady’s side after Louise McDaniel opened the scoring, with Caitlin McGuinness also on target.
Erin McLaughlin and Caoirse Doherty both found the net for Sion, who finish the campaign in fourth spot.
McDaniel opened the scoring on 16 minutes, tucking home from close range after Caitlin McGuinness had slipped the ball through to her.
Kirsty McGuinness doubled the Reds’ lead just after the half hour mark, firing into the far corner from the left-hand side of the box.
That goal seemed to spark Sion into life and they responded just a minute later with McLaughlin audaciously lobbing the ball over Reds’ goalkeeper Lauren Welsh from long range to half the deficit.
Caitlin McGuinness would restore the home side’s two goal advantage with a cool lofted finish of her own in the 42nd minute before her sister Kirsty added her second and the Reds’ fourth with a header on the stroke of half time.
Doherty slotted low into the bottom corner to pull another goal back for Sion on 51 minutes but Morgan swept home from Kirsty McGuinness’ left field cross to net the Reds’ fifth goal of the evening.
The young defender would round off the scoring eleven minutes from time, powering home a header from Grace McKimm’s corner to ensure John McGrady’s side ended their season on a high.
