FOUR FOR BEATTIE AS GLENS RETURN TO TOP
Glentoran went back top of the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership on Friday thanks to a nine-goal victory over Linfield.
Kerry Beattie netted four goals for the East Belfast side as Lauren Wade grabbed a brace and Kelly Baillie, Rachel Rogan and Caragh Hamilton all found the net.
The Glens lead Cliftonville at the top of the standings courtesy of their superior head-to-head record against the Reds.
Bailie opened the scoring after heading home unmarked from a corner in the 18th minute and seven minutes later Beattie doubled the lead from the spot after Danielle Maxwell was fouled in the area.
Beattie then added a quickfire double before the break to complete her hat-trick, and she extended the lead to five in the 51st minute with a strike from the edge of the box.
Wade added a sixth in the 58th minute before substitute Rogan headed home a seventh ten minutes later.
Hamilton scored the pick of the punch with a fine burst of speed, turn and great finish to make it 8-0 before Wade added a ninth a minute from time.
The victory could have been even greater had it not been for some fine saves from Blues goalkeeper Lauren Currie.
