BATTLING SION WIN THROUGH IN THE END
Sion Swifts came from two goals down in the second half to secure a stunning comeback victory against Linfield at New Midgely Park.
Five of the game’s seven goals came in the second half after Aimee Neal had cancelled out Rebecca Bassett’s opener for the Blues just before half-time.
Katie Dickson’s double had appeared to put the hosts in the driving seat but two goals from Cora Chambers levelled the scores before Caoirse Doherty scored the late winner.
Bassett opened the scoring with a cleanly struck left foot finish but in first half injury time, Neal headed in a corner from the right to equalise for Sion.
Early in the second half, Dickson finished confidently to restore Linfield’s lead and eight minutes later she finished coolly after the referee played advantage.
Following a mix up in the Linfield defence, Chambers nipped in to reduce the deficit to 3-2 on the hour mark and she equalised five minutes later, benefitting from a long ball forward and when the Linfield defence failed to deal with it, she levelled the score.
With five minutes remaining Sion completed an impressive comeback when Doherty finished confidently to put them ahead for the first time in the game.
Linfield had a last chance to grab a share of the spoils but goalkeeper Caoimhe Callaghan saved well from Bassett to ensure that Sion returned home with the points.
