HAT-TRICK FOR KERI AS BLUES HIT DERRY FOR SIX
A hat-trick from teenage winger Keri Halliday on her first start for the club earned Linfield Ladies a 6-1 win at Derry City Women.
Halliday - a 16-year-old making her first start for the club since joining from Ballymoney United - stole the headlines with her sensational treble, as striker Rebecca Bassett also bagged a brace.
Paula McGrory had netted for the Candystripes early in the second half but the result was put beyond any doubt in the 77th minute when Sienna Leckey added a fifth for Phil Lewis’s side before Halliday completed the win in injury time with her third and the Blues' sixth.
Mia Fitzsimmons missed from the spot in the 10th minute after Halliday was felled in the area - the defender’s effort went wide of the post.
Bassett opened the scoring after latching onto a back past and tucking home past Derry goalkeeper Clare Friel at the second attempt.
Halliday scored her first senior goal when cutting in from the left and rifling into the far corner before Bassett neatly tucked away her second and Linfield’s third before the break.
McGrory pulled a goal back for Derry four minutes after the break before Halliday netted her second of the night with a floating shot from the edge of the box over Friel.
Leckey grabbed a fifth after picking up a loose ball and curling her shot into the top corner before Halliday rounded off her night with a fine individual goal twisting and turning in the box before shooting home.
