FIVE STAR REDS BACK ON TOP
Cliftonville Ladies returned to the top of the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership with a comprehensive 5-2 win at Linfield Ladies.
First half goals from Erin Montgomery, Niamh Connolly and Fionnula Morgan put the Reds in control, but Linfield hit back after the break through Rebecca Bassett and Rebecca McKenna.
Former Blues star Kirsty McGuinness took the game away from the hosts with a quickfire brace in the second half.
Montgomery opened the scoring in the second minute with Connolly doubling the lead 13 minutes later after a Marissa Callaghan pass.
Morgan made it three after a McGuinness and Callaghan corner routine, but the Blues were much better after the break.
Ebony Leckey burst through the opposition defence to allow Bassett to pull a goal back before McKenna scored a second for the Blues, and then she hit the bar five minutes later.
However, as Linfield pressed forward they were caught by a McGuinness goal on the break and the Northern Ireland star then added her second and her side’s fifth three minutes later with a trademark free-kick.
