SION HIT BLUES FOR SIX
Sion Swifts had picked up just one point from their opening seven league matches but secured a stunning six-goal victory at home to Linfield.
It was head coach Ryan McConville’s second game in the dugout following his appointment last week and his side were in full charge from the early stages and led 4-0 at half-time.
Tasmin McCarter blasted home in the 14th minute to open the scoring after the ball had come loose from an Erin McLaughlin corner.
Sion doubled their lead 10 minutes later with Kelly Crompton’s powerful strike while two more goals arrived before the break; McLaughlin tapping home three minutes before half-time and Michelle McDaid grabbing a fourth in the 44th minute.
Midway through the second half, a rocket of a shot from 25 yards out from Kerry Brown made it five, before Alison Smyth’s penalty for the visitors crashed off the post and away.
McDaid added her second and Sion’s sixth in the 79th minute to complete the victory for the hosts.
The result means Sion leapfrog Derry City at the foot of the standings.
