REDS MAKE IT SIX FROM SIX
Cliftonville Ladies won 4-1 at Linfield Ladies to make it six wins from their opening six rounds of matches.
Former Blues stars Caitlin McGuinness, Kirsty McGuinness and Louise McDaniel were all on target for the North Belfast side, while Yasmin White added a fourth late on as striker Ali Smyth’s penalty on the hour mark was not enough for the hosts.
The Reds took just ten minutes to open the scoring as the McGuinness sisters combined – Kirsty crossing for Caitlin to finish at the back post.
On 21 minutes the Linfield defence was caught trying to play out of trouble and Kirsty McGuinness punished them, confidently finishing to double the Reds lead.
In the 59th minute, the Blues were given a lifeline as Megan Weatherall fouled Ebony Leckey in the box and Smyth scored confidently from the resultant penalty to reduce the arrears.
However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed immediately when a great ball put McDaniel through on goal and she made no mistake, restoring Cliftonville’s two-goal cushion.
White made it four in the 83rd minute with a back post finish from Weatherall’s ball and Toni Leigh-Finnegan hit the post at the death.
The result leaves Linfield a whopping 11 points off the pace after just six rounds of matches.
