GLENS HIT EIGHT TO GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS
Glentoran Women secured their first league victory in three attempts with an emphatic 8-2 triumph at Derry City Women as Rachel Rogan grabbed the headlines with a hat-trick.
Rogan netted a treble for the Glens while Joely Andrews, Kerry Beattie, Kelly Bailie, Alison McMaster and Lauren Wade were all on target for Billy Clarke’s side.
Alison McGonagle and Paul McGrory both scored consolation goals for the Candystripes in an action-packed match full of attacking football and high-quality goals.
Derry struggled to contain the Glens midfield and the impressive Andrews opened the scoring on seven minutes and the away side’s dominance was strengthened on 10 minutes, when Rogan nipped in at the front post to double the visitors lead.
Beattie added a third before Rogan got her second and Glentoran’s fourth after the break and whilst McGonagle pulled a goal back with goal from outside the area, the Glens restored their four-goal advantage a minute later through veteran forward Baillie, heading in from a corner.
McCrory sidestepped Shannon Dunne outside the Glentoran penalty area and unleashed a great shot for the home side’s second, but there were a further three goals for the visitors with McMaster on the scoresheet and Rogan completing her hat-trick with substitute Wade scoring a fantastic strike.
