GLENS OFF TO WINNING START
Glentoran - who finished last season’s campaign in third - registered a three-goal victory at Cliftonville to get their campaign off to a winning start.
Joely Andrews and Kerry Beattie put the Glens in control prior to the break before Jess Foy added a third with 20 minutes remaining to seal a convincing victory.
The Reds made a bright start with Rachel McConnell’s early header straight at visiting goalkeeper Jacqueline Burns, before the visitors began to take control.
Andrews opened the scoring in the 41st minute after Beattie’s ball into the box was not cleared and three minutes later Beattie turned from provided to scorer as she converted from Kelly Bailie’s free kick.
Niamh Connolly blasted over for Cliftonville after the restart and the game was keenly fought, but Foy’s third sealed the point with the Glens with 20 minutes left on the clock; her cross-come-shot spectacularly sailed into the net to wrap up the points.
