COMBER REC. SUFFER RELEGATION
Comber Rec. were relegated from the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership following a three-goal defeat at home to Crusaders.
The hosts needed at least a point to secure survival but a double from Mairead McCann and goal from Faith Johnston ensured their spell in the top-flight ended after just one campaign.
McCann opened the scoring in the ninth minute and she doubled her and the Crues advantage just after the half-hour mark in a game in which the hosts acquitted themselves with typical endeavour, but ultimately failing to get on the scoresheet.
Johnston added a third five minutes into the second half while Nadine Murphy’s final game of her remarkable 25-year with the Crues came to an end.
Comber Rec finished the season propping up the table on goal difference, with the Crues ending their season with three successive victories.
