EARLY McGIVERN GOAL ENOUGH FOR CRUES
Crusaders made it back-to-back league victories as they edged out Derry City thanks to an early Amy McGivern goal at Seaview.
The Strikers started the game with outfield player Nadine Murphy in goal and she was almost left red-faced in the second minute when she spilled an early Derry effort but managed to save at the second time of asking.
However, the early nerves were settled in the 8th minute when McGivern managed to bundle the ball past Molly McBride in the Derry goal after a goalmouth scramble. Crusaders struggled to gain any momentum and the only other moment of note in the first half was another McGivern effort striking the post in the 38th minute.
Crusaders started the second half with more endeavour but their poor choice of final ball meant chances were few and far between. McGivern’s spot kick in the 66th minute was saved by McBride, who then saved the rebound and the Crues third strike inadvertently was deflected wide by their own player.
Lisa Armour almost capped a fine individual performance for the hosts with a late goal but her effort went wide of goal after a dazzling run.
