SION SWIFTS IN SEVENTH HEAVEN
Sion Swifts were in seventh heaven against struggling Derry City in Monday night's clash at the Melvin Sports Complex.
First half goals from Michelle McDaid and Caoimhe Walsh put the hosts in control but it was a five-goal blitz in 16 second half minutes that added gloss to the scoreline.
Ciara Grant netted Sion's third three minutes after the break before Kerry Brown and Zoe McGlynn also struck, alongside a double from captain Kendra McMullan.
McDaid opened the scoring after coming off the bench to replace the injured Lauren Brennan before debutant Walsh netted a rasping free-kick against her former club.
The home side's dominance continued in the second half with Grant firing into the bottom corner after a fine run before the gut of goals began, including Brown’s first in senior football.
The result extends Sion's unbeaten run to eight games and places them to within two points of league leading duo Glentoran and Linfield.
