PATTON AND DUNNE HELP CANDYSTRIPES TO CRUCIAL POINTS
Derry City recorded their first league victory of the season as they edged out Comber Rec. Ladies 2-1 at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.
Kate Patton and captain Shannon Dunne were on target for the Candystripes with a Debbie Ferguson effort for the visitors sandwiched in-between.
Derry have now pulled three points clear of Comber at the foot of the table, with Ferguson's strike the first league goal of the season for Winky Kerr's side.
The hosts started the game the stronger and Lauren Cregan’s early effort was well stopped by Comber keeper Leigh Skelton.
It was an end-to-end tie and the hosts broke the scoring just after the half hour mark when Patton finished after good build-up play on the edge of the area.
The visitors struck back straight away through Ferguson after a mix-up in the home side’s defence.
The game was decided in the 57th minute by Candystripes skipper Dunne, who collected Leah McGonagle's free-kick on the edge of the box and secured a priceless three points with the finish.
