LINFIELD AND SION SHARE THE POINTS IN STALEMATE
Linfield dropped their first points of the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership as they were held to a 1-1 draw at in-form Sion Swifts Ladies.
It was the home side who opened the scoring through Ciara Grant - the first league goal the Blues conceded this season - but the visitors hit back straight away through captain Kirsty McGuinness.
The game itself was a fantastic advert for women’s football with a high tempo and intensity to proceedings right from the start - with the first-half evenly poised but neither side able to make the breakthrough.
Kerryanne Brown, Lauren Brennan, Tyler Toland and Clonagh Connor all had chances for the hosts in a flurry of attacks.
Grant broke the deadlock with a wonderful strike from the edge of the area with just 15 minutes to go, but in the spirit of champions Linfield struck back straight away.
Captain McGuiness capitalised on a defensive lapse to grab the equaliser and a pulsating game ended with the spoils shared.
