CANDYSTRIPES KICK SEASON OFF WITH FOUR-GOAL HAUL
Derry City cruised to a comfortable four-goal defeat of Larne at Inver Park to progress in the Women's Premiership League Cup.
The Candystripes moved in front just before the half-hour mark when Ellie Redden stepped up to convert from the spot, awarded after she had been brought down by Hollie Mailey.
That was how it stayed until midway through the second half.
City substitute Chelsea Sheerin, only on the pitch a matter of moments, made it 2-0 with a right foot finish from just outside the six yard box after fellow substitute Kayleigh Carlin found her with a ball from the left.
Laura Connolly added a third with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining with a close range strike into the roof of the net before, six minutes after that, Redden doubled her tally for the afternoon with a stunning set piece from distance despite Larne keeper Cerys Sharkey getting a hand to the ball.
