CLINICAL SION REACH CUP FINAL
Sion Swifts Ladies qualified for the Women’s Premiership League Cup final with a penalty shootout victory over Linfield Ladies after a scoreless draw.
Nothing could separate the teams in 90 minutes in a competitive game at New Midgley Park. Both defences were keeping each other’s forwards at bay and chances were few and far between. A long free kick by Aoibhe O’Neill rattled the Linfield crossbar after 80 minutes before Keri Halliday cut in from the left and flashed a shot just wide of the near post after 93 mins.
Extra time failed to see either team take the win although Jenifer Currie, saved the day for Sion with a tremendous stop on the final whistle from Sienna Leckey.
Sion converted three of their penalties in the shootout as Linfield failed to find the net as the Strabane-based side advanced to the final to face Cliftonville Ladies.
