SECOND HALF GOALS HELP PORTS SINK LARNE
Portadown hit two second half goals to come from behind to defeat champions Larne in dramatic fashion at Shamrock Park.
The first real effort of note arrived with around a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock when Jordan McEneff just failed to make proper contact to Cian Bolger's glancing header across the face of goal.
Larne came close again soon after but Benji Magee failed to hit the target with the goal at his mercy after Andy Ryan had nodded the ball on.
But Larne did move in front on 34 minutes in somewhat fortunate circumstances after Conor McKendry's hopeful long range effort struck an upright before coming off keeper Aaron McCarey and into the net.
The visitors might have doubled their advantage early in the second half when Ryan beat McCarey with a curling free-kick with only the woodwork saving the Ports.
Portadown levelled just after the hour. Shay McCartan did well to find Paul McElroy out on the right flank, and his perfectly delivered cross was headed home by Eamon Fyfe from close range at the back post.
Fyfe could have snatched the lead for the Ports later in the game after finding himself through one-on-one with Rohan Ferguson only for the Larne keeper to do well to make a crucial stop.
However, a minute from time, Niall Currie's side did bag their dramatic winner after McCartan looked up inside his own half to spot Ferguson off his line and duly send a superb lob over the keeper and into the net.
