GLENS AND 'GERS SHARE SPOILS
Glentoran were denied by a stoppage time penalty save as Carrick Rangers left the BetMcLean Oval with a share of the spoils.
The Glens held the early advantage when, on 12 minutes, David Fisher collected the ball on the right corner of the area before cutting across and unleashing a terrific effort past Ross Glendinning into the top corner.
Rangers might have levelled a few minutes after that when Paul Heatley got behind the defence only for his effort to go into the side netting following a timely intervention from Daniel Amos.
Glentoran had an opportunity to double their advantage early in the second half when Amos sent over a corner for Patrick McClean to head towards goal but this was blocked while Frankie Hvid could only fire the rebound over from point blank range.
And the home side came close again just after the hour after Dylan Connolly played Fisher into position but his effort from an acute angle came off the angle of post and crossbar.
However Carrick levelled with just over ten minutes remaining after Heatley sent the ball towards the back post from the edge of the area for Danny Gibson to nod home.
There was a further twist deep into stoppage time when the Glens were awarded a penalty when Kurtis Forsythe was adjudged to have blocked a cross with his hand but from the resultant spot-kick Jay Donnelly was denied when Glendinning correctly dived to his left to make the save.
