FYFE STRIKES FOR PORTS FIRST VICTORY
Eamon Fyfe was the Portadown hero as he secured a vital three points for his side away to Carrick Rangers.
It was a subdued first half at Taylors Avenue, with the best chance of the first 45 minutes as Josh Ukek's long range effort was well saved by Ross Glendinning.
Both sides had a couple of half-chances early in the second half as Emmet McGuickan went close for Carrick Rangers and Steven McCullough had a speculative effort for Portadown both fail to trouble the respective goalkeepers.
The deadlock was finally broken on 69 minutes, as Fyfe latched onto a long ball and brushed off the challenge of Kurtis Forsythe to slot under Glendinning for the only goal of the game.
The home side did push for an equaliser, but it was Portadown who came closest to another goal when substitute Ryan Mayse grazed the bar with a cross-come-shot with five minutes remaining.
Niall Currie's side held out for their first league win of the season and first since their return to the top flight, whilst Carrick Rangers' run of defeats stretches to four league games.
