GLENS EDGE FVE-GOAL THRILLER
David Fisher bagged two goals as Glentoran edged past Carrick Rangers in a thrilling encounter at Taylors Avenue.
Rangers moved in front midway through the first half. Marcus Kane was adjudged to have fouled Paul Heatley and from the subsequent spot-kick Danny Gibson stepped up to send Daniel Gyollai the wrong way.
Glentoran levelled four minutes from the break through David Fisher who pounced on a wayward Frankie Hvid strike from the edge of the box to divert the ball into the net.
Carrick came within inches of regaining the advantage when Albert Watson headed a Paul Heatley corner off the crossbar, but moments after that they were reduced to ten men after Kurtis Forsythe collected his second caution of the evening.
And Glentoran punished them almost immediately when Jordan Jenkins saw an effort cleared off the line by Joe Crowe only for Hvid to send the rebound back into the bottom corner.
Stuart King's side hit back to level just before the hour with Heatley's first goal since returning to the club after controlling a Benjamin Buchanan-Rolleston ball over the top to fire past Gyollai.
The visitors almost hit their third of the evening less than ten minutes after that but James Douglas could only fire wide from close range after Fisher's initial strike had been turned away by Ross Glendinning.
However the Glens did edge back into the lead with just less than a quarter-of-an-hour remaining when Douglas floated the ball into the area for Fisher to send a glancing header into the net.
