GORMLEY GOAL THE DIFFERENCE AT SOLITUDE
Joe Gormley bagged the only goal of the game as Cliftonville defeated Dungannon Swifts at Solitude.
Both sides had their chances to go in front early in the game, with Rory Donnelly failing to beat Declan Dunne one-on-one after roughly a quarter-of-an-hour while, a few minutes later, an Adam Glenny goalbound effort was blocked in front of goal by Luke Conlan.
The Swifts came closest to breaking the deadlock after half-an-hour through Thomas Maguire who worked his way down the left before cutting the ball across for Leo Alves to cannon off the crossbar.
At the other end Gormley was thwarted by a great reflex save from Dunne before, moments from the break, Jonny Addis couldn't direct home a Ronan Doherty free-kick at the far post.
The match winner - and only goal of the game - arrived midway through the second half. A Shea Gordon cross low into the area caused problems for the Swifts, with Gormley turning the ball towards goal.
Dungannon came close to levelling on a couple of occasions, with Niall Owens being denied by a reflex stop from David Odumosu while, in stoppage time, Adam Glenny fired just wide from distance.
