RANGERS DO ENOUGH TO CLINCH EURO PLAY-OFF SPOT
Carrick Rangers held on to get the result they needed to secure a European play-off spot with victory over Glenavon at Mourneview Park.
Stuart King's side moved in front after 20 minutes when James Teelan was knocked over in the box by Conor Kerr and from the subsequent spot-kick David Cushley stepped up to fire into the top corner.
And the visitors doubled their lead on the half-hour mark when Danny Gibson knocked on a poor clearance into the path of Curtis Allen who duly used his experience to fire past Mark Byrne.
Glenavon pulled one back five minutes from the break, however, when Niall Quinn's free-kick into the area caused panic in the Rangers defence with Stephen Teggart's finish deflecting off Ben Tilney and into the net.
After the break Carrick pushed for an extra insurance goal but despite creating a number of half chances only really came close when Danny Gibson got past Byrne one-on-one only for the home defence to clear the danger.
At the other end Ross Glendinning had to be alert to deal with a Danny Wallace deflected effort, and to tip over a Kerr close range header in added time.
Both sides ended the game with ten men when Teelan and Robert Garrett were dismissed following a challenge.
