SWIFTS STAY IN CONTENTION
Dungannon Swifts kept their hopes of securing a European play-off alive with a two-goal defeat of Glenavon at Stangmore Park.
The visitors came closest to breaking the deadlock midway through the first half when Len O'Sullivan could only look on as his effort cannoned off the outside of an upright.
However, not long after that, play went down the other end for Tomas Galvin to continue his recent scoring form with a low finish past Mark Byrne after getting past the offside trap.
Glenavon came close again just before the break when Matthew Snoddy's header rolled just wide after he had met a Stephen Teggart inswinging cross.
Snoddy just failed to connect with a James Doona cross early in the second half as Glenavon pushed for the equaliser, while Peter Campbell then sent the ball over when it looked certain he'd find the net.
And they were punished for those squandered opportunities with a quarter-of-an-hour to go when Thomas Maguire doubled the home advantage on the rebound after Rhyss Campbell's initial effort came back off an upright.
