EARLY GOAL ENOUGH FOR SKY BLUES
Ballymena United made it two wins out of three with victory over Glenavon at The Showgrounds.
Calvin McCurry fired the Sky Blues in front with what proved to be the only goal of the game after he smashed the ball home from close range after Daithi McCallion had nodded the ball on.
And United could have doubled their lead midway through the first half when Danny Wallace almost headed into his own with McCurry later firing straight at keeper Mark Byrne a few moments later.
Glenavon came closest to levelling a few minutes from the break but Peter Campbell could only fire wide after United keeper Sean O'Neill parried the ball into his path.
The visitors were presented with a gilt-edged opportunity early in the second half. Scot Whiteside was adjudged to have handled a Lido Lotefa effort on the line, and subsequently receiving a straight red card as well as conceding a penalty, but Campbell could only look on as his resultant spot-kick was well saved by O'Neill.
The Lurgan Blues kept on pushing for the equaliser with Stephen Teggart seeing his effort tipped over after going one-on-one with O'Neill while, moments later, Len O'Sullivan couldn't find the target from close range.
Glenavon ended the game with ten men themselves when, four minutes from time, Jack Malone was dismissed for a late challenge on Donal Rocks.
