KENNEDY STRIKE PROVES ENOUGH FOR CRUES
Ben Kennedy grabbed the only goal of the game as Crusaders defeated bottom of the table Newry City at The Showgrounds.
The Crues enjoyed the majority share of possession throughout the game, but almost fell behind midway through the first half when Kennedy conceded a penalty following a foul on Barney McKeown but Ciaran O'Connor's subsequent spot-kick was comfortably saved by Jonny Tuffey.
Stephen Baxter's side were denied the opener soon after when Jay Boyd's finish was ruled out offside by the officials while, not long after that, Kennedy fired an effort off the crossbar from six yards.
However the visitors eventually found a way through with what turned out to be the winner with 15 minutes remaining after Kennedy rose highest to nod Boyd's cross past keeper Conor Mitchell.
Newry almost hit straight back with the equaliser only for John McGovern's effort to be blocked at the back post by Billy Joe Burns but the Crues held on to secure the points and could have added to their lead with two further attempts from Kennedy.
