McCAFFREY BAGS HUGE NEWRY WINNER
Newry City collected a potentially huge three points with victory over Carrick Rangers at the Loughview Leisure Arena.
The win, coupled with Ballymena United's defeat to Crusaders, moves Barry Gray's side to within two points of the Sky Blues in the battle to avoid the automatic relegation spot.
The visitors might have moved in front early in the game when Ciaran O'Connor had a go from around 25 yards only to fire just past the post.
But Carrick dominated large periods of the first half, coming close on numerous occasions but none more so than towards the end of the scoreless first half when Danny Gibson headed off an upright before Joe Crowe's follow up was cleared off the line.
Stuart King's side came close again early in the second half after Crowe sent over a corner for James Teelan to fire against the crossbar.
Further chances came through Gibson and Teelan but, with eight minutes remaining, the visitors grabbed what proved to be the winner and only goal of the game when Lorcan Forde cut the ball back for Fra McCaffrey to slot home from close range.
