SCORELESS DRAW AT MOURNEVIEW PARK
Glenavon and Glentoran played out a scoreless draw at Mourneview Park.
The visitors had the ball in the net inside the opening minute but David Fisher's header from Patrick McClean's cross was ruled out offside by the assistant referee.
Glentoran continued on the front foot with Fuad Sule testing keeper Mark Byrne with an effort from outside the box while, not long after that, Daire O'Connor also tested the Glenavon custodian from distance.
Glenavon then came close just before the half-hour mark from their first attack of the evening after Len O'Sullivan's left-sided cross was directed towards goal by Matthew Snoddy only to remain out after keeper Aaron McCarey turned it onto the crossbar.
However the visitors continued to look the more likely to find a way through with McClean having a go from 30 yards only for the ball to sail past the post while, just before the break, Charlie Lindsay sent a left-foot volley over.
Warren Feeney's side had the ball in the net once more early in the second half. Another Fisher effort was turned away by Byrne with Junior Uzokwe then cutting the ball back for Shay McCartan to slot home but the assistant referee judged that the ball had gone out of play after Byrne's initial save.
Another chance went begging a few minutes after that with Fisher once more being a threat with an effort across Byrne but the keeper proved equal to the challenge.
The home side might have snatched victory in the closing moments when a quickly taken Robbie Garrett free-kick reached Darren Clarke but his curling effort towards the corner sailed over the top.
