McGONIGLE HITS LATE COLERAINE WINNER
Coleraine ended their seven match losing streak with victory over Glenavon at The Showgrounds.
The Bannsiders got off to a bright start when Conor McKendry played Jamie McGonigle through with his right foot shot well dealt with by Gareth Deane.
Glenavon's first effort of note arrived with around a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock after Darren Clarke cut in front from the right to send a left-foot shot just over the crossbar.
The sides traded chances soon after with McGonigle seeing another shot kept out by Deane while, at the other end, Gavin Hodgins volleyed over from inside the area.
Then, just after the half-hour mark, Jack Malone just failed to touch home a James Doona ball across the face of goal followed a short time later by a 25-yard drive from Peter Campbell that Rory Brown got down low to gather.
Coleraine twice came close early in the second half. McGonigle found his way behind the visiting defence to lift the ball over Deane but also over the top, while McKendry sent an effort straight at the keeper after winning the ball on the edge of the area.
Glenavon might have snatched the lead themselves later in the game but found former keeper Brown in inspired form to instinctively deal with a Lido Lotefa shot at the near post.
However what proved to be the winner and only goal of the game arrived with just a minute of normal time remaining after McGonigle raced clear of the defence to curl a right foot finsh past Deane.
