INVER REDS HIT THREE PAST NEWRY
Larne swept to a comfortable three-goal defeat of Newry City at Inver Park.
The defending champions moved in front with just over a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock when new signing Chris Gallagher unleashed a terrific half volley from the edge of the box after a poor clearance had landed for him.
Larne almost doubled their lead not long after that when another recent arrival, Ro-Shaun Williams, saw a header tipped onto the bar by Conor Mitchell.
Tiernan Lynch's side had another couple of opportunities to extend their advantage before the break but Leroy Millar could only offer up a scuffed effort in front of goal before Andy Ryan sent the ball just over from a Cian Bolger cross.
But Larne's second did arrive on 52 minutes through Tomas Cosgrove who connected with Sean Graham's corner to turn the ball home from close range.
Newry attempted to hit back and might have reduced the deficit only for Rohan Ferguson to make a double save to deny Adam Salley and then Jamie McDonagh.
And the visitors came close again when another Salley effort took a deflection off Millar only to drop a few inches wide of the target.
However the game was put beyond any doubt with 18 minutes remaining when Andy Ryan confidently converted from the spot after Georgie Poynton was penalised for pulling back Cosgrove.
