LATE ADDIS WINNER BREAKS NEWRY HEARTS
Jonny Addis bagged a stoppage time winner as Cliftonville came from behind to defeat Newry City at The Showgrounds.
The home side needed just four minutes to open the scoring when Adam Salley headed home from Noel Healy's deep cross.
Barry Gray's side might have doubled their lead with around a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock after Steven Ball got past a couple of defenders before laying the ball off for Ciaran O'Connor but his effort was blocked by Luke Turner.
Cliftonville came close to levelling on a couple of occasions midway through the second half when first Odhran Casey tested Conor Mitchell with a close range header, followed by a Ronan Hale attempt straight at the keeper.
The sides continued to trade chances with Salley narrowly firing wide from close range, while Rory Hale saw a curling effort denied by Mitchell before Ben Wilson just failed to find the target from a Sean Stewart cross.
Newry were dealt a blow on the stroke of half-time when they were reduced to ten men following O'Connor's dismissal for a challenge on Rory Hale.
And it only took the Reds a couple of minutes after the break to make their numerical advantage count when Addis levelled with a stunning 30-yard drive into the top left corner which gave Mitchell no chance.
With their extra man Cliftonville went on to craft out a plethora of opportunities as the second half continued.
Ronan Hale fired just over the top from an Addis lofted ball into the area, Wilson glanced a header towards goal that Mitchell comfortably gathered before the City keeper punched away another effort into the area and dealt with a follow up half volley ... to name just a few.
But just when it looked like the ten men would hold on for a hard fought point up popped Addis seven minutes into stoppage time with a close range finish to break the hearts of the home supporters.
