GLENAVON EDGE INTO TOP SIX
Glenavon moved into the top six with a two-goal defeat of Carrick Rangers at the Loughview Leisure Arena.
The sides traded chances throughout the first half, with Rangers crafting the first effort of note during the opening exchanges when Danny Purkis fired into the side netting after cutting into the box.
Ben Tilney then took the ball past a number of defenders but couldn't make his subsequent shot count while, for Glenavon, Hack Malone tested Ross Glendinning but found the home keeper equal to the challenge.
The action continued when Glendinning dealt with a couple of James Doona free-kicks before Matthew Snoddy played Peter Campbell through but again the Carrick keeper did well to deny the effort.
However the deadlock was finally broken moments from the break when the ball was returned into the box from another Doona delivery for Snoddy to head home.
Snoddy almost doubled Glenavon's lead early in the second half from similar circumstances but Glendinning gathered on this occasion before, a little later, Malone saw an effort blocked.
Rangers might have equalised when Lewis MacKinnon played Purkis through but he could only crash his finish off the left post.
But Glenavon doubled their advantage on 70 minutes to secure the points.
David Cushley was adjudged to have handled in the box and whilst Malone's spot-kick was well saved by Glendinning the rebound fell for Snoddy who then laid it off for Campbell to fire home from close range.
