LURGAN BLUES CONTINUE WINNING STREAK
Glenavon made it five league victories on the bounce with a three-goal defeat of Newry City at The Showgrounds.
Stephen McDonnell's side moved in front ten minutes from the break from a Conor McCloskey free-kick that found Jack Malone on the edge of the area, with his first time effort coming back off the inside of the post and past keeper Tom Murphy.
Then, six minutes after that, Aaron Prendergast made it 2-0 when he pounced on the rebound of another McCloskey ball to make no mistake in knocking the ball past the home keeper.
Prendergast might have added a third for the visitors early in the second half but he was somehow thwarted from Murphy who did well to scramble across his line to save at the second attempt.
Newry did attempt to fashion a comeback as the game progressed with Adam Carroll looking poised to pull a goal back only for Rory Brown to spread himself well to keep the ball out.
Then, not long after that, Brown and Niall Quinn did just enough to keep another Salley effort out, this time from a corner.
But Glenavon put the game to bed right at the end of normal time when Quinn knocked a quickly taken free-kick forward for Stephen Teggart to run onto and slot home from inside the area.
