GLENAVON CLAIM THE WIN AT FOGGY SHOWGROUNDS
Glenavon picked up a crucial three points with victory over Ballymena United at a foggy Showgrounds.
Ballymena created the best of the early opportunities with Isaac Westendorf just failing to connect with a Fraser Taylor cross, before the loanee from Larne tested Rory Brown with a glancing header from a Steven McCullough free-kick.
However Glenavon seized control of the game as the first half progressed.
Aaron Prendergast might have opened the scoring only to be denied by a reflex save from Sean O'Neill, before the same player was denied again by an outstretched foot from the United keeper.
Prendergast came close again when he turned the rebound from a Niall Quinn cross wide of the target but, on 37 minutes, Glenavon did move in front when Conor McCloskey scored against his old club with a back post header from Peter Campbell's left wing cross.
Jim Ervin's side squandered a great chance to level early in the second half only for Donal Rocks to hit straight at Brown after receiving the ball from Westendorf.
But the visitors always looked the more likely to add to their tally, and might have done so through Isaac Baird's snapshot which wrong footed O'Neill while, towards the end, Prendergast nodded over from another Campbell delivery.
