THOMSON AT THE DOUBLE AS LARNE FIGHT BACK
Larne came back from a goal down and a man down to defeat Newry City at The Showgrounds.
Scoreless at the break, both sides were restricted to a series of half chances.
Levi Ives had an early chance for Larne, but his free-kick was directed straight at keeper Steven Maguire while Cian Bolger sent a later effort over the bar.
A similar fate befell an Adam Salley chance at the other end, with Daniel Hughes then testing Rohan Ferguson with a snapshot.
But the deadlock was finally broken just before the hour. Barney McKeown sent a free-kick behind the Larne rearguard, and Salley managed to get past Leroy Millar to send an effort past Ferguson and into the net.
Millar might have levelled moments later with a right-foot shot which curled just past the post.
Larne did have the ball in the net after that but Joe Thomson's deflected effort was ruled out offside before, a few minutes after that, Tiernan Lynch's side were reduced to ten men when Ilijah Paul was dismissed moments after coming on for throwing the ball at Hughes.
However Larne levelled with ten minutes remaining after a Tomas Cosgrove cross from the right was headed on by Lee Bonis for Thomson to blast a volley into the net.
Then, remarkably, Thomson struck again six minutes later with what proved to be Larne's winner from another Cosgrove delivery.
