REDS EDGE OUT BANNSIDERS
Cliftonville edged out Coleraine at The Showgrounds to move back into second spot in the standings.
Scoreless at the break, Conor McKendry went close early on for the Bannsiders with a well taken shot from from just outside the area, and again a little later with a 25-yard effort that forced keeper David Odumosu into a diving save.
Jamie Glackin then fired the wrong side of the target from outside the box while, for the Reds, Joe Gormley saw an effort blocked by Lyndon Kane.
Both sides had their chances during the latter part of the first half with Glackin seeing a superb struck right foot effort turned away by Odumosu and Shea Kearney testing Gareth Deane from distance at the other end.
The deadlock was broken on 57 minutes after a superb cross to the back post was met by Ben Wilson who then volleyed high into the net beyond Deane.
Coleraine levelled just over ten minutes later when McKendry finally found the net after cutting in to beat Odumosu with a right foot effort into the roof of the net.
But, with just under a quarter-of-an-hour to go, Sam Ashford grabbed what proved to be the winner with a close range finish after Stephen Mallon had done well to beat a couple of defenders down the right before crossing into the box.
The Bannsiders came within a whisker of salvaging a point in the closing stages after his free-kick from just outside the area crashed back off the crossbar.
