SPOILS SHARED AT THE SHOWGROUNDS
Ballymena United and Dungannon Swifts shared the points from this important bottom of the table clash at The Showgrounds.
The Sky Blues might have gone in front with just less than a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock when Noah Stewart's header from Steven McCullough's corner was cleared off the line by Thomas Maguire.
Swifts keeper Conor Mitchell was then called into action to twice deny Isaac Westendorf before, on 25 minutes, the loan signing from Larne did break the deadlock when he outpaced the Swifts defence before firing a powerful finish past Mitchell.
The visitors looked to get back onto level terms when Kealan Dillon tested Sean O'Neill with a low drive, but Ballymena looked the more likely to find the net again as Westendorf had a header tipped away while Andrew McGrory offered up an acrobatic effort that sailed wide of the target.
Gael Bigirimana came close to equalising for the Swifts moments from the break with a curling effort from just outside the box towards the bottom corner only for the ball to drift wide of the right post.
But, six minutes into the second half, Rodney McAree's side did find the net after Matthew Lusty's pass across the face of goal was turned into his own net by defender Lewis Tennant.
Looking to regain the advantage, Fraser Taylor produced a superb diving save from Mitchell later in the game while, for the Swifts, Joe Moore was denied by O'Neill.
In the closing stages Westendorf was thwarted by an Ethan McGee clearance before sending a later effort off target following a run down the left.
