EARLY JUNIOR DOUBLE SETS GLENS UP
Three first half goals helped Glentoran sweep to a comfortable defeat of bottom of the table Glenavon at the BetMcLean Oval.
Junior Uzokwe opened the scoring for the Glens are early as the third minute with a tapped finish past keeper Rory Brown after Cameron Palmer and Jay Donnelly had combined to find him on the edge of the six yard box.
Then, ten minutes after that, Junior struck again after Palmer was once more involved with a cross to the back post that turned home from close range.
Glentoran's third came on the stroke of half-time. Again Palmer played his part when his corner into the area caused something of a scramble before Patrick McClean got the final touch to send the ball over the line.
Donnelly could have added a fourth after the break only for his effort to bounce over the bar from Bobby Burns' cross while the Glens continued to press forward, having a penalty appeal waved away after a Robbie Garrett challenge on James Singleton.
For Glenavon Aaron Prendergast had an opportunity after getting on the end of a Peter Campbell cross, but the visitors did bag a stoppage time consolation when Jack Malone unleashed a 25-yard free-kick beyond Aaron McCarey into the top left corner.
